Application Procedure and Timeline

PW Mini Info Night - Tuesday, November 5, 2024

Prince of Wales Mini School Information Night for all interested students and their parents at 7pm in our school auditorium (2250 Eddington Drive).


VSB On-line Registration for your “intent to apply” - Tuesday, November 12 to Thursday, december 19, 2024

The Vancouver School Board (VSB) requires all applicants to any mini school program in the district to register their “intent to apply”. Register on-line on the VSB website (https://govsb.ca/secondary-programs) and follow the prompts. No late registrations will be accepted. Please note that registering on-line on the VSB website does not automatically register you for admission to Prince of Wales Mini School. You must complete and submit an application to PW Mini School in addition to registering on-line on the VSB website.


Test for all District Alternative Programs - No longer required/administered by the vsb

The VSB has decided to eliminate the district wide alternative programs test. As such, any district alternative programs (including all VSB Mini School Programs) will no longer require the completion of this test for any applicant.


Grade 7 application deadline - Thursday, December 19, 2024 (by 3:00 p.m.)

To apply to Prince of Wales Mini School, please submit the following information:

1) a completed Prince of Wales Mini School Application Form (3 pages)

2) a photocopy of the applicant’s most recent Grade 7 report card (with teacher comments)

3) Photocopies of the applicant’s two (2) most recent Grade 6 report cards (with teacher comments) *For majority of applicants, this would be their final grade 6 report card along with their previous one before that.

Do not submit any other materials. (We do not accept letters of recommendations, portfolio items of student work, etc.)

Application forms must be received at either PW Secondary School – Main Office (2250 Eddington Drive) or PW Mini School (4750 Haggart Street) by 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2024.

Incomplete applications will be disqualified. (Please note that we will not contact families to notify them of incomplete applications. Please ensure all of the above components are included in your application package before drop-off.)


Students selected for an interview will be contacted - Monday, january 20 to friday, January 24, 2025

Students selected for an interview by PW Mini School will be contacted by phone or email sometime during this week (most likely during the end of the week). We receive more than 300 applications each year. Based on our selection criteria we will short-list approximately 100 students to be interviewed. Due to a limit of time and resources, we regret that we are only able to contact successful interview applicants.


Interviews for short-listed students only - Monday, February 3, 2025 (tentative)

In-person interviews will be held for short-listed applicants on this date. More information on the format of this interview will be provided to short-listed candidates beforehand.


First round offers of acceptance - Wednesday, february 26, 2025

First offers of acceptance will be made via email.


Deadline for acceptance by applicant and parent (first offers) - Friday, February 28, 2025

Acceptance must be emailed to Prince of Wales Mini School at pwmini@vsb.bc.ca by 12:00 PM (noon) on Friday, February 28th, 2025.


second round offers of acceptance - wednesday, March 5, 2025

Second offers of acceptance (students on the wait list) will be made via email.


Deadline for acceptance by applicant and parent (second offers) - thursday, march 6, 2025

Acceptance must be emailed to Prince of Wales Mini School at pwmini@vsb.bc.ca by 12:00 PM (noon) on Thursday, March 6th, 2025.
